Turbochargers

Complete turbocharger assemblies for EMD 645 and 710 and ALCO 251 engines: remanufactured by rebuilders we audit, balanced, clutch and bearings renewed, outright or on exchange with the test report. Rating and engine model confirmed from your nameplate before the quotation.

What we supply

EMD turbochargers

Complete units for 645 and 710 engines across the common ratings, with the gear driven clutch assembly, bearings, seals and turbine and compressor wheels renewed or replaced.

ALCO 251 turbochargers

Remanufactured units for 251 engines in locomotive, marine and power generation service, including the older models kept alive by rebuilders rather than by the OEM.

Cartridges and kits

Bearing and seal kits, clutch assemblies and rotor cartridges for shops that rebuild in house; supplied with the unit or on their own.

What a remanufactured turbocharger includes

  • Disassembly, cleaning and crack inspection of the housings; nozzle ring and diffuser checked or replaced.
  • Turbine and compressor wheels inspected, blended or replaced; rotor assembly dynamically balanced with the record supplied.
  • New bearings, seals, clutch parts and hardware; oil passages flushed and flow checked.
  • Assembled to the OEM clearances, run tested where the rebuilder has a test cell, and sealed with protective caps for shipment.

Why fleets buy turbochargers through Simor

Balanced and recorded

Hover or tap for details

Balance and test records travel with the unit so your inspector sees the numbers, not a promise.

Exchange or outright

Hover or tap for details

Core credit stated on the quotation; cores accepted with housings intact and the rotor complete.

Failure planning

Hover or tap for details

Fleets keep one exchange unit per engine type on the shelf; we quote the spare and the exchange terms together.

Bearings, seals, gaskets and mounting hardware by part number for shops that rebuild themselves.

How a complete unit is supplied

  1. 1

    Identify the unit

Send the nameplate (model, frame, serial) and the locomotive class. A photo of the data plate is enough; we confirm the model and the interchange before quoting.

  2. 2

    Quotation with condition stated

Remanufactured, serviceable or new, outright or on exchange, with the core credit, the test report and the warranty written on the quotation.

  3. 3

    Inspection and test records

Every unit ships with the rebuilder's test report and our receiving inspection photographs. Third party witness testing is arranged where the tender requires it.

  4. 4

    Delivery and core return

Cradled, sealed and shipped on your Incoterm; core return instructions and packing for the returned unit are included when the deal is exchange.

You buy the unit and keep your old one. Best when the core is scrap, when the fleet is being expanded, or when the return freight costs more than the core credit is worth.

You receive a remanufactured unit and return your core within an agreed window, usually 60 to 90 days. The core credit is stated on the quotation and depends on the core being complete and rebuildable; we tell you what counts as rebuildable before you commit.

Your own unit is rebuilt and comes back to you. Longer lead time, lower cost, and the right choice for unusual models where exchange stock does not exist. We manage the shipping both ways and report progress weekly.

Questions we are asked

Do you supply turbochargers for GE 7FDL engines?

On request. 7FDL units are quoted per enquiry with the engine model and the locomotive class; send the nameplate and we confirm availability.

Can a turbocharger be shipped by air?

Yes. Most units travel by air on a cradle when the engine is down; sea freight is quoted for planned spares.

How do I know a remanufactured unit will fit my locomotive?

Send the nameplate and the locomotive class. We confirm the model, the interchange and any application notes before the quotation, and the quotation names the exact model supplied.

What documents come with a complete unit?

The rebuilder's test report, our receiving inspection photographs, a certificate of conformance, the warranty statement and the export documents. Material certificates are supplied for new parts fitted where your tender asks for them.

Do you supply the component parts as well?

Yes. Brushes, bearings, cartridges, gaskets and every other part number are in the parts catalog. This page is for the complete unit.

Send the engine nameplate or the turbocharger data plate; we quote exchange and outright options with the lead time within two working days.
